During his visit to Toronto for the G-20 Summit, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, attended a function on June 28, 2010 which was organized by Shri S M Gavai, High Commissioner of India in Canada to meet Canadian Senators, Members of Parliament (MP) and Members of Provincial Parliament (MPP) of Indian descent. The Prime Minister conveyed his admiration for the achievements of the Indo-Canadian community in Canada and their role in forging closer India-Canada relations.  Others who addressed the gathering included Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission  of India,  Mr Deepak Obhrai,  MP and Parliamentary Secretary to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada,  Mr Harinder Takhar,  MPP and Minister for Government Services,  Government of Ontario and  Mr Ujjal Dosanjh, MP, Liberal Party.

During his brief stay in Toronto,  Prime Minister of India also visited the Air India memorial site at Humber Bay Park East, Lakeshore Boulevard, Toronto, where he laid a wreath in memory of the victims of the horrific terror bombing of the Air India Flight 182  that took place 25 years ago on June 23, 1985 and resulted in the tragic loss of 329 innocent lives. He met the Office Bearers of the Air India air crash Victims' Families Association and conveyed his deepest condolences.  He told the bereaved family members that  “the entire nation shares your sense of loss.”  The family members conveyed to the Prime Minister that his presence was “a soothing balm” that had provided  "a healing touch" to their grief.
