At the valedictory session of the 9th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) at  Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on 9th January, 2011, Honourable President of India Shrimati Pratibha Devisingh Patil, announced that a regional convention of the Indian diaspora would be held in Toronto this year.

In pursuance of this, the PBD Canada 2011 is being organized at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC), Front Street, Toronto, Canada, on 9-10 June 2011, in partnership with the Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC).  The Press Conference for the launch of Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas for North America and Carribean was held on 24 March 2011 in Toronto and widely attended by a large number of media and community members.
