OCI Application Procedure and Checklist :

To fill the OCI application form, please visit the link http://passport.gov.in/oci/ 

DOCUMENT UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS :

For OCI applications, the relevant documents have to be uploaded online along with application form. The applicant shall submit the application form online and upload the recent photograph as per the correct specification and upload the PDF copy of eligibility documents at the OCI registration website http://passport.gov.in/oci.  

After the successful registration of OCI application and uploading the pdf copy of eligibility conditions, the applicants are required to submit the physical copy of duly signed application form with 1 photograph and the original documents (only in case of new OCI applicant) at the BLS Centre. Please bring a screenshot of the photograph, signature and documents uploaded. 

A) PHOTO / SIGNATURE UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS :
Important : The images must be in JPEG or JPG with max size 200 KB (with white background).

(1) APPLICANT PHOTOGRAPH :

  • The height and width of the Applicant Photo must be equal. 
  • The minimum dimensions are 200 pixels (width) x 200 pixels (height).
  • The maximum dimensions are 900 pixels (width) x 900 pixels (height).

(2) APPLICANT SIGNATURE / THUMB IMPRESSION FOR MINOR WHO CANNOT SIGN :

  • The height and width of the Signature Photo must have aspect ratio 1:3. 
  • The minimum dimensions are 200 pixels (width) x 67 pixels is (height). The maximum dimensions are 900 pixels (width) x 300 pixels (height).

B) DOCUMENT UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS :

  • Document-Upload Section of Online OCI-Registration has 4 categories. Documents relevant to your application have to be uploaded. 
  • Max file size allowed for a document file is 500 KB.
  • The document file should be in PDF format.
  • Please scan and upload the self-attested copies.

Please scan the documents in a single file for each category as mentioned below :

OCI FRESH APPLICATIONS :

OCI Fresh Fee: CAD $282 + Additional BLS service charges

CATEGORIES ADULTS  (18 & ABOVE) MINOR APPLICANTS

Indian origin proof Cancelled Indian passport (first & last page) with appropriate stamp showing obtaining Canadian citizenship as one file.
In case the applicant does not have any of the above proofs to establish his/her Indian origin he/she must obtain a 'Nativity Certificate’.
(A copy of sample ‘Nativity Certificate’ application format along with copy of sample ‘Nativity certificate’ can be seen on Google under ‘Nativity Certificate’).
If applicant born outside & never had any Indian passport, upload 1st & last page of both parents surrendered Indian passports
Relationship certificate N/A Full version birth certificate(for minors not born in India)
Marriage certificate Registered Marriage certificate (please note we do not accept Community Marriage Certificates such as certificates issued by Wakf Board, Temples, Gurudwaras and Church. In such cases the marriage should be registered with appropriate Marriage Bureau in India/abroad or attested by Ministry of External affairs - it can be accepted along with notarized joint affidavit containing joint photograph and Signatures from Notary Public or lawyer in Canada)

 

Parents Registered Marriage certificate (please note we do not accept Community Marriage Certificates such as certificates issued by Wakf Board, Temples, Gurudwaras and Church. In such cases the marriage should be registered with appropriate Marriage Bureau in India/abroad or attested by Ministry of External Affairs - it can be accepted along with notarized joint affidavit containing joint photograph and Signatures from Notary Public or lawyer in Canada)
Divorce certificate The decree of divorce issued by the foreign court or the competent authority/agency of the foreign Government should be duly apostilled/attested by the concerned Ministry of Ontario Government Services and by the Indian Consulate. PIO TO OCI APPLICATIONS :

PIO Card scheme has been withdrawn vide Gazette Notification No.25024/9/2014F.I dated 09.01.2015. Henceforth, applicants may apply for OCI card in lieu of their PIO card ONLY, as PIO card scheme is no longer in existence. Please note that the deadline for conversion from PIO cards to OCI cards is 31 December, 2017 and all PIO card holders are requested to submit their application through the PIO conversion link provided at  http://passport.gov.in/oci/in order to avoid any inconvenience in their travel plans. Applicants who need to travel to India before arrival of their OCI card, may apply for appropriate visa for the peroid of their travel.

 Valid PIO to OCI Fee: CAD $0 + fee of CAD 4 for ICWF and BLS service charges

Lost PIO to OCI Fee: CAD $105 + Additional BLS service charges

FOREIGN SPOUSAL BASIS :

OCI MISCELLANEOUS SERVICE :

OCI Miscellaneous Service Fee: CAD $30 + Additional BLS service charges

  • Surrender certificate, if applicable
  • Canadian Citizenship certificate

Applicant has to submit one set of photocopy of relevant documents along with the application.

Status Report: Applicants may track the progress of the OCI application at : https://passport.gov.in/oci/statusEnqury after 4-6 weeks of acknowledgement of OCI application at the Consulate. To check the online status, you need to mention your passport number along with Online Registration number or Reference / Acknowledgement Slip number.

Collection of OCI card, please contact to BLS Services Centres. The collection timing at the BLS is between 1500-1700 hours.

Applicants for Consular, Passport, Visa service & OCI are informed that Courier charges are not mandatory.
